Part II
April 18, 2014 – Moriones
Festival: I am Crucified, You are Saved!
9:00 AM. We’re ready for the Moriones Festival. We decided to move
early to be able to catch up with the parade of Morions in the town of Mogpog.
During this time, it’s not easy to get a jeepney or tricycle because everyone
is busy for some church activities and we really have a hard time to get one.
Luckily, a Good Samaritan passed by offering a ride with them. Unfortunately,
the parade is done already and we are not able to watch it. We decided to just
have some photos with the Morions roaming around the town. We also managed to
visit the town’s church, San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, where we found busy
local folks preparing for the late afternoon procession. After a while, we
decide to look for a place to eat. We found one at the public market so we take
our breakfast there. Right after, we decided to move to Boac, Marinduque’s
capital town, hoping that we can watch the Via
Crucis(Station of the Cross) – the re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s carrying of the cross and His
crucifixion.
Luckily, the
activity is just about to commence when we arrived the town. Everyone is in
high spirit for the highly anticipated event. This is one of the highlights of
the festival (the other one is the Pugutan – the beheading of
Longhinos, a left-eye blind Roman Centurion who struck Jesus’ body with a spear
and the blood from it make him see the world). The activity started at about
11:30 AM. Under the intense heat of the sun, the Via Crusis started roaming the town. Almost everyone is on the
street to witness Jesus suffering for our salvation. The event ended up in
Jesus Christ crucifixion along with the two sinners.
After the event, we take our lunch at GoodChow. The food is good especially sinigang na Lapu-lapu and chicken adobo (sa gata and luyang dilaw). But I think the macaroni salad doesn’t compliment. It’s oily. Aside from that, I enjoy the food and the ambiance. You can see the historical Boac Cathedral from there. The staff and crew are also nice.
After our lunch, the group decided to look for some souvenir t-shirt.
We find one right beside the church. From there we take a walk to the
Cathedral, the oldest in the province. There is ongoing activity in the church,
The Seven Last Words. Others are busy preparing for the procession later that
afternoon. When we think we had enough (photos actually), we moved to buy some
food for tomorrow’s activity. We take a ride home and decided to call it a day.
April 19, 2014 – Sand...
Rock... Beach!
7:00 AM. Everyone is excited to refresh. But before the beach thing,
we decided to have a short karaoke session early in the morning. How was that?
While preparing the food, we enjoy music with our singing voices. When
everything is done we head our way to the beach at around 11:30AM. This is
actually a post birthday celebration of one of our dear friend.
The beach is not actually developed so there is no
need to pay for an entrance fee. There is no cottage, but there‘s a lot of
shade from trees where we can stay. The beach is almost full when we arrived. A
lot like us who want to enjoy the long vacation. There are some familiar faces
I have seen. We choose a comfortable place to stay and take our lunch. We had a
drink after and decided to get into the water as soon as the sea is not
crowded. The water is refreshing and the wind is soothing. When almost everyone
is leaving the place and the sun starts to cool down, we take some picture in
the beautiful rock formations. The place is simply beautiful and relaxing.
The
relaxing view of sunset at the top of a beautiful rock formation is a nice
experience
After the poses and shots, we gather some coconut husks and woods for
our bonfire later. We decide to spend our night at the beach and enjoy the rest
of our vacation. We have some truth or dare game and everything is fun. One the
best experience I ever had. A memory worth
remembering.
